GENERAL INFORMATION for the Amaravati Family Events

The Amaravati family retreats are for families with children who want to practice Buddhism together with other families. If you are unsure if an event is suitable for you, then please contact us.

Location

Amaravati Buddhist Monastery, St Margarets, Great Gaddesden, Hertfordshire, HP1 3BZ, United Kingdom.

Activities

The retreats will offer a mixture of pujas, meditation, creative and outdoor activities. We will provide more information for each retreat closer to its start date. The photos and descriptions on this website will hopefully give you a rough idea of what the retreats will be like. If you need more information, then please contact us.

Agreements

As an attendee, you agree to:

  • Follow the the Five Precepts and strive to live in harmony with the other attendees during the event.

  • Help in the kitchen and keep the venue clean, as we will cook our own food and carry out housekeeping on our own (on overnight retreats).

  • Avoid using electronic devices including phones, tablets, and laptops.

  • Take responsibility for your children throughout the event. Our child protection policy is available on the child protection pages.

  • Dress modestly to respect the needs of the monastics. Avoid wearing miniskirts, tiny shorts, tops that are tight or skimpy and made of see-though materials.

  • Pay for any damage or breakages you might cause.

For more information, please see our ethical guidelines for the events.

Applications

As we usually have more people who would like to attend a retreat than places we can offer, the organisers have to make a selection. When selecting attendees, we strive to create a healthy mix of old and new families, that we check if we can offer appropriate accommodation for each family, and we try to ensure that we can meet people’s specific needs. If you miss out on a retreat, then we would encourage you to apply again in the future.

Amaravati Family Events reserves the right to cancel any bookings that are deemed unsuitable or inappropriate.
